About Us

Our Club

The Octopus Flying Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit flying club, established on September 27, 1962. We operate in accordance with the FAA rules for a flying club as a nonprofit entity, organized for the express purpose of providing its members with aircraft for their personal use and enjoyment only. We operate a fleet of four aircraft, based at Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, Maryland (KGAI) and North Perry Airport (KHWO) in Hollywood, Florida.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone holding at least a FAA Private Plot license. We are a flying club, not a training school. Our aircraft are not for rent. We do not accept students. Total club membership is limited in our by-laws to ensure members have access to our fleet. All membership applicants are interviewed and must be approved by the Club's Board of Directors.  Members must comply with all applicable FAA regulations and the club insurance policy.  All members pay a refundable membership deposit of $1200 as outlined in our by-laws. Monthly dues are collected to cover the fixed costs of the club. Flight time is charged on tach time, as used.

Access to Our Fleet

Members are provided keys to access our club aircraft in Maryland and Florida.

A club checkout from a Board of Directors approved CFI and written test is required for all our aircraft. Our insurance policy requires 100 hrs PIC, 25 hrs of complex airplane, and 10 hrs in make & model for our Socata TB-20's.

Members may hold up to 3 future reservations, with a maximum total reserved time of 200 hours. There are no daily or weekly minimums for a reservation. Same day reservations do not count against the 3 future reservations.

Every club member is "Named Insured" under our insurance policy. The club requires each member to sign an acknowledgement of self insurance to cover the 10% hull value insurance deductible; or may obtain an individual insurance policy at their own cost to cover the 10% hull value insurance deductible.
